Using a skill is a two-part flow: first enable it, then attach it to the context where you want it to apply. Skills attach per-context, and each context — New Chat, Projects, and Agents — has its own permission and its own way to add them.
Step 1: Enable the Skill
Only enabled skills can be attached. Enable a skill by turning on its Enabled toggle in “Manage Skills”, or by clicking “Add” on a library card.
In New Chat and Projects
In the chat input for a New Chat or a Projects chat, the toolbar has a “Skills” tool.
Open the Skills tool
Click “Skills” in the chat toolbar to open the “Add Skills” modal.
Check the skills you want
Only enabled skills can be checked and added. A skill that isn’t enabled yet shows an “Enable” (+) button — clicking it enables the skill and stages it for this conversation in one step.
Send your message
The attached skills apply to that conversation.
In the Agent Builder
When building an agent, a skills picker popover lists the skills you can access with quick-toggle rows. It also offers “Manage skills” and an “Add new skill” submenu with “Browse library”, “Create”, and “Upload”.
Shared skills cannot be added to agents. Only your own skills and library skills can be attached to an agent.
See AI Agents Overview for more on building agents.
Configuration Required
If a skill needs configuration values or a connector, a requirements wizard runs before it can be used — for example: “This skill needs the connector. Connect it to continue.” A “Configuration required — open Edit config…” warning icon appears on any skill whose requirements aren’t yet satisfied.
Connect the services a skill depends on ahead of time via Setting up a connector so it’s ready to attach when you need it.
