As your knowledge base grows, folders help you keep files organized. Folders come from the way you upload — Generate preserves the structure of any folder you add, so your files stay arranged the way they are on your computer.

Where Folders Work

Folders are available per scope:
  • Project files and Agent files support folders.
  • Chat files are flat — folders aren’t supported in a chat.
If you drop a folder into a chat, Generate declines it with “Folders are not supported here / Only individual files can be added to a chat.”

Creating Folders by Uploading

There is no “new empty folder” button and no way to move a file between folders in the main app — structure comes entirely from your uploads.
1

Choose a Project or Agent

Open the Knowledge Base / Sources panel for a project or agent (not a chat).
2

Upload a folder

Drag and drop a folder into the panel, or use the folder picker. The full hierarchy — subfolders and all — is preserved.
3

Browse the result

Your folders appear in the file tree, ready to navigate.
Because structure comes from uploads, the best way to reorganize is to upload files or folders arranged the way you want them.
The panel uses a single-pane tree: subfolders are listed first, then files, with a breadcrumb (starting at Home) across the top.
  • Enter a folder to drill into it.
  • Use the breadcrumb to jump back to a parent folder or Home.

Selecting and Deleting Folders

Selecting a folder’s checkbox selects all files inside it, recursively — a quick way to act on everything in a folder at once.
Deleting a folder shows a “Delete folder?” confirmation that warns you how many files it contains. Deleting removes every file inside it.

Other Folder Actions

Open a folder’s ⋯ menu for two more actions:
  • “Edit name” — rename the folder in place.
  • “Reclassify” — bulk-reclassify every completed file in the folder (and its subfolders) at once, instead of reclassifying files one by one.
If you upload a folder with the same name as an existing one, Generate doesn’t merge or overwrite it — it saves the new upload as a copy (for example, “Folder 1 copy (1)”), the same way it handles duplicate file names.

Folders in the Workflow Builder

The Workflow Builder reuses this same folder tree — read-only — when you pick files for a node, so your organization carries straight over into your workflows.
