Storage locations are configured by administrators. Open Settings → Storage → Locations.
Storage locations tell Generate where your organization’s documents live so they can be scanned, indexed, and made searchable. The page header reads “Storage locations” with the subtitle “Manage your storage locations and configure S3, NAS, and other storage systems for indexing.”

The Locations Page

Each location appears as a card showing:
  • Type label — Amazon S3, MinIO, NAS, NFS, or SMB-CIFS
  • Status pill — connected, error, testing, or disconnected
  • A ⋯ menu — Edit, Scan, Preprocessing, or Delete
Use Search and Filter to narrow long lists. The Scan action stays disabled until a location shows a connected status.

Adding a Storage Location

1

Click Add storage

Select Add storage in the top-right of the Locations tab to open the two-step wizard.
2

Fill in Details

On the Details step, enter a Storage name and optional Description, then choose a Storage type (Amazon S3, MinIO, NAS, NFS, or SMB-CIFS). The storage type is locked once the location is created.
3

Configure the Connection

On the Connection step, enter the credentials and paths for your chosen storage type. For NAS locations you can connect over SSH — see Remote NAS over SSH.
4

Test the connection

Click Test connection. A successful test is required before you can save.
5

Save

Save the location. Once its status shows connected, you can start an indexing job from the ⋯ menu.
Editing a location reopens the same wizard. All fields are editable except the Storage type, which is fixed after creation.

Managing Existing Locations

From a location card’s ⋯ menu you can:
  • Edit — update connection details or credentials
  • Scan — opens a “Scan storage location” modal where you pick Express or Precision processing before the indexing job starts (enabled only when connected)
  • Preprocessing — configure the pipeline applied to scanned files
  • Delete — remove the location and its indexed content
Deleting a storage location removes it and the data indexed from it. This cannot be undone.
